Suzy from Scottsboro
Hi Everyone,
I'm Suzy and am from Scottsboro Alabama. I am picking up my first tarantula next week. I have been reading so much that I decided to go ahead and join the group. There is so much to learn before I pick her up!
I am a teacher for Jackson Co. school system. My husband, Richey and I are avid backpackers, hikers, and general outdoors enthusists. I have two sons, John and Calvin who love outdoors stuff too.
I already have a corn snake (sitting right beside me, actually!

Nice to meet you!
I am getting an Antilles Pink Toe. I'm supposed to go to Huntsville to look at them. The breeder is Mike Nelms- I can't remember the name of his business- Dixie something??? Anyone heard of him? He got a good review on Tarantula.us
If I get a 3" avic. will a 10 gallon tank be too large? I have an empty 20 gallon, but someone said it was too big for her... sooo I was gonna just get a 10 gallon and turn it on its side. Any other ideas?
Thanks for the warm welcome!

Mike is on this forum. My husband and I buy most of our T's from him. He's a great guy. I believe his business name is Dixie Inverts. I don't think a 10 inch tank on its side will be too big. somebody correct me if I'm wrong though, please. Something my husband has done that's cheap was going to the Dollar Store and buying a rubbermaid container. One that you might put a gallon of tea in, put air holes in and hot glued the lid shut so you can't twist it off. Just an idea. Hope everything works out for you

Great!!!!
Okay that makes me feel GREAT that Mike is on this forum and that you guys know him. I'm going to get to meet him hopefully next week. I want my setup just right before I bring her home!
One reason I enjoy herps (are tarantulas herps??? ) so much is that I love creating their habitats (and decorating them!) so that explains why I want one tarantula in an aquarium- some women like to decorate their houses... I like to decorate my habitats.
I'll post a pic when I get my Avic (naming her Charlotte- I'm an elementary teacher and it shows). I'm so excited!!!
